Adrar Plateau
Adrar Plateau or Adrar Tamar is a Sahara region located in central Mauritania. Adrar in Berber means mountain, and many areas in the Saharan part of Africa are called Adrar, so Tamar is added to Adrar when referring to Mauritania. Many visitors point out this area as a jewel of Mauritania. On the Adrar Plateau, you can find endless dunes, mountains, gorges, the second-largest monolith in the world, Ben Amira, the ancient Moorish cities of Chinguetti and Ouadane, and oases overgrown with date palms. There are indeed countless adventures and activities in this area. Before coming to Adrar Tamar, be sure to check the safety recommendations, because, in the past, it happened that the Adrar Plateau was unsafe for visitors.
