One of the largest dams on the continent, and the most challenging engineering endeavor of South Africa, the Katse Dam is a magnificent sight for every visitor. The dam holds nearly 2 million cubic meters of water for the water supply of Gauteng, an industrial, densely populated area of South Africa. The dam is 710 meters long, 185 meters high, and double curved. When the reservoir is full, the length of the artificial lake is as much as 30 kilometers up Malibamat'so River and the area of water is about 39 square kilometers. Visitors point out, apart from the magnificent construction and beautiful view, Katse Dam Botanical Garden and Katse Dam Visitors Center.
