Memento Park

South of Buda lies the open-air museum, Memento Park. This park is home to more than 40 statues of communist leaders from around the world, but also from Hungary. In the period from 1949 to 1989, Hungary was a communist country. In that period, this park was an obligatory part of school excursions from the interior, but also a visit of high-ranking Communist Party officials and foreign statesmen. Today, this park is again popular as a reminder of the past.
