Erta Ale
Erta Ale is the most active volcano in Ethiopia and one of eight in the world that has a lava lake, sometimes even two lakes! It is located in the northwest of the country, in the Danakil Depression, which is one of the most inhospitable places in the world. In the past, sporadic conflicts have taken place in this part of the country, so we recommend visitors to check the situation on the ground before departure.
