Island of Goree

This “memory island” is the symbol of the slave trade, since it was a main slave trade center in Africa for centuries. Recognized by UNESCO, today the island is a home of The House of Slaves or Maison des Esclaves, a museum and memorial center. Besides that, its narrow car-free streets and vibrantly colored houses welcome visitors to enjoy this exceptional island.
