Lake Qaraoun is an artificial lake created by the construction of the El Wauroun Dam on the Litani River, the longest river in Lebanon. The lake was made for the needs of electricity production, irrigation, and water supply for households. Migratory birds also took the opportunity, so 20,000 migratory birds found nesting place here every year. Nearby is the archeological site of Ain Jaouze, where numerous pieces of stone tools from the Neolithic period have been found. Swimming is not allowed, but a boat will take you along the lake from which you can enjoy the beauty of the views of the surrounding mountains.
