Zenkov's Cathedral

Zenkov's Cathedral or Ascension Cathedral in Almaty is an impressive building! This is one of the few buildings from the time of Tsarist Russia that still exists. The colorful facade hides a secret: the entire cathedral is made of wood, even the nails are wooden! Maybe that is the reason why the building survived the catastrophic earthquake from 1911. During the communist era, it served as a museum and a concert hall, and it regained its original purpose 90 years since its creation - in 1997.
