Wassu Stone Circles is located in the central Gambia, about two kilometers from the right bank of the Gambia River southeast of Bird Island. Wassu is one of several sites where circles appear made of stone pillars 1 to 2.5 meters high, weighing several tons each. It is assumed that these places were used about 1000-1500 years ago as burial places. This site is next to the road that connects the east and west of the country, so it is a popular stop for tourists who pass here.
