El Tazumal

In the western part of the country, next to the town of Chalchuapa, lies an archeological site called El Tazumal. This magnificent site was excavated during the 40s and 50s of the 20th century. El Tazumal is a Mayan ceremonial complex comprising several pyramid-shaped structures, the largest of which is 73 by 87 meters. Visitors to this location can learn about the exciting secrets of the ancient civilizations of Central America.
