Middle of the World
About twenty kilometers north of the capital Quito is a complex called Ciudad Mitad del Mundo. The complex includes a 30-meter-high monument The Middle of the World and the Ethnographic Museum. The monument was erected in honor of the name of the country and the French Geodetic Mission, which in 1736 conducted experiments aimed at determining the shape of the Earth's, as well as the precise positioning of the equator. In addition to the great photos they can take there, visitors love the museum's exhibits related to geology, geography, and ethnology.
