Cotopaxi

Cotopaxi is the second-highest peak in Ecuador, and with its 5897 meters above sea level, it is one of the highest volcanoes in the world. Its top is covered by one of the rare equatorial glaciers that starts at 5000 meters. It is precisely the fact that glaciers have existed in the past that has contributed to the lethality of the eruptions, as the ice cap has completely melted by adding lava and lahars, which have leveled Latacunga city several times. Today, climbing to the top of Cotopaxi is popular, and as many as a hundred visitors climb to the top every week.
