Lac 'Assal

Lac 'Assal is a salt lake in central Djibouti. The lake is specific for its location in a crater, situated in a depression 155 meters below sea level. This is the lowest point in Africa. The salinity of the lake water is ten times higher than the salinity of the sea. Salt is extracted from the lake by evaporation. The only living creatures in Lac 'Assal are bacterias.
