Gjirokaster Castle

Gjirokaster Castle has stood for more than 800 years. This citadel has exhibits of WWII Communist efforts against Germans, but there is also captured the United States Air Force airplane, as a reminder of the Cold war. During this era, Gjirocaster Castle served as a political prison, up until 1968. The castle is under the protection of UNESCO.
